Feb. 13: One of the big disappointments on my book tour has been the lack of response from military and fraternal organizations. I have telephoned and emailed more than 50 VFWs and American Legion posts and appeared before only five, selling 18 books, and received no fees despite the fact that I’m donating proceeds from book sales and speaking fees to United Veterans Beacon House. The Bay Shore nonprofit runs 34 homeless shelters for veterans. I am its board chair……
Feb. 10: I Had the pleasure of speaking to members of Port Washington VFW Post 1819 last night, selling five books and a download card and making $69 for United Veterans Beacon House. I found the post laden with Vietnam veterans, led by post commander John Chalker, who told me he is a Vietnam vet and also served in Iraq in 2004 with the Fighting 69th Infantry Regiment at the age of 52. Jan. 31: My wife Lynn and I had a great time this afternoon at the East Williston Library, where director Susan Corsello was a fine host and I sold 7 books plus an eBook download card and raised $245 for United Veterans Beacon House, putting me over $3600 on my tour. I speak at Farmingdale Library Wednesday night at 7.
